Will this trap catch other birds or animals?

keyboard_arrow_down

PeckOff traps are designed specifically for starlings, using size and entry cues that attract them while minimising accidental entry by other species.

Is the trap humane?

keyboard_arrow_down

Yes — birds are trapped alive with minimal stress. The plywood faceplate to mimics natural nesting environments and the trap mechanism uses gravity, removing injury risk from a spring loaded mechanism.

How do I set the trap?

keyboard_arrow_down

Simply pull down gently on the handle. Once the limit of handle movement has been reached, let go of the handle and the door will be held open by the internal trigger mechanism.

Where should I place my trap?

keyboard_arrow_down

Mount your PeckOff trap near nesting or roosting sites— sheds, rafters, equipment, feed lots or anywhere birds gather. It works equally well indoors or outdoors. It is recommended to mount it  approximately 1-2m off the ground for ease of access and re-setting.

How do I install my trap?

keyboard_arrow_down

The PeckOff trap comes with a two screw hanger as standard for installing on veritcal walls or posts. Screw or bolt the hanger in a suitable location, and hang the trap in place. In some cases the trap can be placed on a convenient shelf or ledge. An optional magnetic attachment is available for use with machinery. If using the magnetic base, apply carefully to avoid paint scratches.

How do I empty the trap?

keyboard_arrow_down

Use the underside pull-pin to release the floor hatch, and carefully remove the bird from inside (it is recommended to wear a leather glove). The trap can be lifted off the hanger to make this process easier. Our PeckOff catch bag is available to make trap clearing even easier and reduce risk of the captured bird escaping – Place the bag around the bottom of the trap before pulling the pin, and the bird will drop into the bag.

How often should I check it?

keyboard_arrow_down

The trap should be checked daily (every 24 hours) to ensure humane treatment of captured birds and compliance with animal welfare standards.

How do I clean the trap?

keyboard_arrow_down

Ensure any nesting debris are cleared after each use to avoid fouling the mechanism. The trap can be hosed down or wiped with a damp cloth or soft brush if needed. Avoid excessively soaking the plywood faceplate.

Does the trap require maintenance?

keyboard_arrow_down

The PeckOff trap is low maintenance; Moving parts should be checked occasionally for wear, andany loose fittings should be tightened. It is recommended to store the trap inside when not in use to prolong the life of the trap.

Can I get replacement parts?
